Poster Sites Have Paid Off Says Charity CEO - June 08

A CHARITY set up to help sufferers of an auto-immune condition, has been delighted with the response to its poster campaign in 4000 GP waiting rooms organised by IDS UK Healthcare Marketing.

Alaisdair Nimmo, CEO of the Myasthenia Gravis Association, said they were so pleased with the results in the WIS network ( Waiting Room Information Services ) that they were investigating further spreading the message to pharmacies via IDS’s new Help2Health network.

Mr Nimmo explained he had proof of the benefit of using the WIS poster sites - “A man was waiting to go and see his GP and he read one of our posters. When he went in for his appointment he told his doctor he was concerned that he had some of the symptoms for Myasthenia Gravis, which is an auto-immune disease characterized by fluctuating, sometimes fatal, muscle weakness. It turned out he did have the condition – and this was brought to light because he had read the poster.”

Mr Nimmo said his charity had seen an increase in the number of people contacting his charity as a result of reading the posters.

“We are getting a lot of people contacting us for advice – so it shows the posters are doing their job,” he said.

Prior to signing up with WIS, Mr Nimmo said his charity - like many others - had relied on its volunteers to get the message out there.

“We relied on the goodwill of our volunteers to get posters put up in surgeries but you are relying on one person and you don't get the consistency or coverage that you get with WIS,” he said.

IDS UK Sales Manager, Patrick Connor said he was delighted the poster campaign for the Myasthenia Gravis Association had proved so positive.

“It's great to know that the poster sites are working so effectively and people are reaping the benefits of having this information available while they wait for their doctor's appointment. Charities such as the MGA rely on their volunteers a great deal – it is great that we can help them get their message out to a wider audience with our professional service,” he said.

Poster and leaflet sites in GP surgeries have proved so popular that IDS UK has rolled out the service to include pharmacies and more than 700 have so far signed up to the service.
