Margot Knowles and IDS Healthcare

TEAM leader Margot Knowles has combined a passion for tennis with her work for IDS UK and its proved to be 'smash' hit.

A fully qualified tennis coach, she played as a junior at Wimbledon in 1965 before an injury brought an end to her competitive days.

Now she combines her work with schools and weekend coaching, with her work as leader of a team distributing leaflets to doctors’ surgeries and pharmacies.

“I really enjoy the work and feel committed to it – we've got an excellent team and it's great to be a part of that,” said Margot, who lives in Bolton.

Her son Andrew is a talented artist, drummer and keyboard player (a former member of Franz Ferdinand), while her daughter Jackie is studying at drama school in London.

“They both play tennis and enjoy the game. There are a lot more opportunities in tennis for young people these days. The game has changed quite a bit since I was a junior at Wimbledon – the racquets are so much lighter for a start,” she said.

Margot, who also played lacrosse for her home county ot Lancaster, admires many of the players today – and is keen to see Andrew Murray succeed.

“I really hope the press leaves him alone to get on with playing the game and enjoying himself,” she said.

To make it to the top of the game you have to be dedicated, she explained and make a commitment to the sport.

“Our approach to tennis is changing – we need a bit more of the killer instinct and that is coming into our game,” she said.

Operations Manager, Hanna Rogerson, says: “We are proud of the fact that so many of our merchandisers combine the work they do for us with other passions in their lives and this is reflected in the excellent on-going relationships they form with practice managers and pharmacists.”
